Obsidian isn't actually open source—here's the markdown editor that is
Tolaria is what Obsidian should have been—fully open source and AI-ready

Note
Curator's note
As a long-time Obsidian user, I have to say that Tolaria is really appealing to me right now. Sure, there are still things missing, like plugin support or even just a data view.
But I’m enjoying what I see so far, and I can see myself keeping Tolaria installed for a while.
Highlights
Tolaria is a fairly new release in the markdown editing world, but it’s already gaining immense popularity. Tolaria hit GitHub on April 21st, and on the morning of May 7th (the day I’m writing this article), it’s already at 10,056 stars on GitHub.
Tolaria offers block-based editing.
Tolaria has a proper MCP
Tolaria also features built-in Git support for remote syncing
Tolaria is available on macOS (optimized for both Apple Silicon and Intel processors), Windows, and Linux, making it a fully cross-platform markdown editor.
It seems like iPad, iPhone, and Android support are planned for the future, as well.
